February 10, 2016 – Labeling and packaging company, Fortis Solutions Group, LLC in Wixom, MI recently received the prestigious Michigan Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (MSHARP) Award certification from the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA).

MIOSHA established the MSHARP Award to acknowledge employers with outstanding workplace safety and health programs that far surpass their counterparts. The MIOSHA program is part of the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).

“Fortis Solutions Group has an engaged team of employees and management with a clear commitment to safety in the workplace,” said MIOSHA Director Martha Yoder. “This award embodies its track record of health and safety excellence and efforts to enhance its worker protections.”

The facility has an excellent safety and health management system in place, which incorporates each of the required elements: management commitment and planning, employee involvement, safety and health training, worksite analysis, and hazard prevention and control.

Some of Fortis Solution Group’s best practices include monthly PowerPoint safety and health trainings and a safety and health suggestion box.
“We are intently focused on the safety of our employees and thrilled to become a MSHARP recipient, which recognizes our commitment to a robust occupational safety and health management system,” said Fortis CEO John O. Wynne, Jr.

MSHARP targets small manufacturers to help them develop, implement and continuously improve the effectiveness of their workplace safety and health management system. The program provides an incentive for employers to emphasize accident and illness prevention by anticipating problems, not reacting to them.

The MIOSHA Onsite Consultation Program within the Consultation Education and Training (CET) Division operates the MSHARP. MSHARP worksites earn an exemption from “programmed” MIOSHA inspections on a yearly basis.
Onsite consultants work with employers to help them become self-sufficient in managing occupational safety and health. The MIOSHA review team consisted of onsite safety and health consultants Joe Barela and D.W. Johnson.

“Eligibility for the MSHARP requires a company to meet certain criteria and demonstrate significant employee involvement in the process,” said Yoder. “Fortis has achieved just that, and in doing so, has created an important culture of safety and health.”

Fortis Solutions Group delivers a breadth of product offerings utilizing its flexographic and digital printing capabilities. These include pressure sensitive labels, and extended booklet, variable data, multi-ply coupon and flexible packaging printing.

Headquartered in Virginia Beach, VA., the company also has manufacturing and sales offices in Detroit, MI and other states.
